Introduction to Fusion

Fusion Origins

While modern science cannot explain the origin of humans and Pokemon alike, it is a commonly accepted fact that the two share a special bond with one and other. Legends tell that humans and Pokemon are two sides to the same coin. Just as the True Legendaries and even the Creator had ambitions, emotions, diversity and power, their creations reflect this. Pokemon inherited their types, many forms and phenomenal powers from the raw forces that forged our universe. Humans were born of the emotions, ambitions and will that drove them forward. Because of this relationship, a special bond has always existed between Human and Pokemon.

When Human and Pokemon train together, they develop a spiritual bond with one and other. When this bond becomes strong enough, the two halves can finally unite once more, forming what we know as a Fusion today. It is important to note that despite this mystic bond, extreme physical or emotional trauma can prevent a human or Pokemon from using properly. In such cases, the body of the victim will refuse any new fusions until the subject recovers, if ever. Although rare, it is possible for this to happen to Fusions as well. Fusions who endure extreme trauma may lose their ability to change their form, or fuse with new Pokemon.

IC Information

Fusion is the physical joining of an individual and their pokemon, creating one being sharing traits from both. It is a process that happens most often in the Kasei region, as such, most fusions live in Kasei. Fusion is a relatively recent phenomenon and has only been happening for a generation or so.

For fusion to be possible, a person and their pokemon much have a bond, a connection of some sort. Usually this only comes about once the person and their pokemon have known each other for a time and know each other well. In rare instances, fusion can occur during states of extremely high emotion, such as ones life being in danger. Even if there is not a deep bond, if both person and pokemon are in a heightened state, it is possible for fusion to occur.

There are two types of fusion, temporary and permanent. Temporary, as the name implies, is a fusion that can be undone. The pokemon will become part of the human, but will return when the fusion is undone. Permanent fusions can not be undone. The pokemon will forever be a part of the human. Some people can still shift between their human and fusion form. There is not a limit to permanent fusion, as one can have multiple pokemon within them and be able to choose the form of any. However, the more pokemon one has in their mind, the more confused ones mind might become.

Fusion is a very subjective experience that differs by individual. For some it's a flash of light, for others it's a slow shifting and others still might fuse in a manner similar to pokemon evolving. Appearance can vary between individuals as well, even though two people might be the same species. However, it seems that fusion requires at least 25% of one of it's participants to be showing, therefore, there are no cases of someone who looks human, but is actually a fusion, or someone who merely has pokemon ears and tail. Those who are practiced at fusing can even choose to vary their form some during temporary fusion, for example, being a male one time and a female another, or being a bit more pokemon when they need to.

Mentally, fusion is as subjective as it is physically. When some people fuse, the human is in control while the pokemon's mind sleeps. In others, the pokemon is in control. For some, they have a voice in their head or their personality is a combination of both. Those who have practiced can allow their pokemon to take control sometimes while they are in control at other times.

Since fusion was discovered, some 'natural fusions' have been born. They are fusions who were born as they are, due to one or more of their parents being a fusion. As natural-born fusions possess both the genetic makeup of human and Pokemon, they are able to attain a fully-human form. However, in doing this, they only repress their Pokemon genetics instead of splitting off into both a separate human and Pokemon. Natural born fusions can, however, fuse with other pokemon and seem to be, biologically, the same as permanent fusions.

OOC Information

Fusion is decided by the 'bond' stat, which is simply there for the sake of the system. In an IC sense, one would not say 'I have a bond of 150', it's just a manifestation of how close a trainer and their pokemon are.

Temporary fusion will be limited by the Trainer Level. This can be seen as the trainer's knowledge and ability in understanding the pokemon that they are fusing with. Therefore fusing with a level 100 pokemon, your final fusion level will depend on your trainer level. If the pokemon is lowered leveled than the trainer level, that level will be used instead. During temporary fusion, the gender of the pokemon will be used, unless your bond is over 250, then you may choose the gender when you fuse. You can pick a different gender each temporary fusion.

Note: When you are able to pick a gender, you are able to pick /either/ the gender of the pokemon, or the gender of the trainer. If the pokemon has no gender, you may pick between male, female, and neither.

During permanent fusion, your trainer's 'battle level' will be used, as the pokemon becomes part of you. The pokemon's experience is added to your own, so you may gain a few levels, but the level of the fusion itself will depend on the trainer and not the fused pokemon. When you permafuse a gender is chosen, that is the gender that the form will be every time you take it. You will be unable to choose genders each time you fuse.

Your Fusion Species

Below is a short rundown of how relationships between the various species function in regards to breeding and societal views.

  • Human + Human: This is to be expected, unless of course you are a nerd.
  • Human + Fusion: While taboo surrounds these couples worldwide, there is some lingering doubts of the ethics for those couples who defy the odds. Unions of this sort can produce both natural-born fusion offspring as well as human children. Human/Fusion relationships are often featured prominently in IC media, particularly romance and drama, and range in social acceptability from perfectly normal to romanticized to prejudiced against depending on region and demographics.
  • Fusion + Fusion: Acceptable interaction in most regions, potentially awkward due to sizes and body shapes. Result will generally be natural-born fusion of course. The pair is capable of bearing human offspring, though it is generally more difficult and uncommon than when one parent is true human. It is not uncommon to see a human child with two fusion parents, because of this. Also, due to the Pokemon nature of a fusion, two fusions can do the same breeding magic that is involved with Pokemon to create a Pokemon offspring. No pregnancy is involved with this type of breeding.
  • Fusion + Pokemon: Due to the nature of the Pokemon DNA within a fusion, it is possible for a Pokemon and Fusion to have offspring. This only can happen when a Pokemon and a Fusion do the same magical breeding process that a Pokemon does with another Pokemon. Again, no pregnancy is involved with this type of breeding. Given the nature of this, it is seen some what in a gray area that people don't tend to discuss, given the nature of Pokemon breeding is seen more so of a spiritual nature.

Fusions, Humans and Language

On the subject of Human-Fusion-Pokemon communication: It is our opinion that the following should be held as 'default' for the setting - Normal humans cannot, in general, understand normal Pokemon; Permanent fusions and born fusion can, in general, understand Pokemon, regardless of their current form; temporary fusions can understand normal Pokemon while they are fused; normal Pokemon can understand normal human communication to varying degrees based on their degree of training, intelligence, and other factors.

That said, the above are intended as a default. If you as an individual feel that it would be better for your character's story if their communicative ability were different than normal in some way, go for it. In this, as in many things, plot and fun come before complete 'realism' or slavish devotion to source material. It would be helpful, though not required, to note any variations from the norm in your +info for the benefit of your RP partners. Happy roleplaying!

Humans do not directly speak Pokemon language, Pokemon do not directly speak human language. Fusions may speak either. This does not necessarily affect their ability to be understood, as said above.
